ATM Theft Bid Foiled in Moradabad; Five Suspects Arrested After Dramatic Attempt to Uproot PNB Machine
A failed ATM theft attempt in Moradabad ended with the arrest of five men who tried to uproot a PNB machine by tying it to their vehicle while disguised in burqas. Police say the suspects are linked to a Haryana-based gang led by criminal mastermind Niyamat alias “Ghoda.” Investigation continues into the group’s wider network.
Authorities identified the arrested suspects as Abdul Matin, Tanjim, Hifzur Rahman, Jubair Khan and Naresh, also known as “Fauji.” Police further stated that the operation was linked to a larger network believed to be led by a Haryana-based criminal, Niyamat—popularly known as “Ghoda”—who is suspected to be the gang’s key coordinator. Officers said the group’s swift, high-risk method indicated a calculated attempt but added that prompt police response prevented the ATM from being removed and safeguarded the bank’s assets.
Investigators are continuing to probe the gang’s activities, including potential links to similar theft attempts in the region. Authorities noted that the arrests mark an important disruption of an organized outfit known for targeting unattended bank kiosks using force and disguise to evade detection.
The case underscores ongoing challenges posed by coordinated theft rings operating across state lines and highlights the increasing reliance on swift surveillance and rapid police deployment to protect critical financial infrastructure.
